CISES Programmes
CISES is structured around four thematic programmes that define its core areas of analysis across international security, defence, emerging risks, and economic strategy. Each programme brings together focused expertise under dedicated leadership, enabling rigorous, policy-relevant research on the key issues shaping the global landscape.
Our Programmes
International Security and Conflict Programme
Focused on geopolitical risk, conflict dynamics, state behaviour, strategic competition, and hybrid warfare.
Economics and Trade Programme
Examines trade policy, economic statecraft, sanctions, and broader questions of economic security.

Emerging Tech and Risks Programme
Explores disruptive technologies, including drones and AI, and the security implications of climate and energy.
Leadership
Each programme is led by a Programme Director responsible for shaping its direction, maintaining analytical quality, and supporting contributors within their area. Together, the leadership team provides oversight across CISES’s core areas of work.

CISES operates as a single organisation structured around four thematic programmes, each with defined leadership and a clear editorial remit. These programmes serve as the core units through which focused analysis is developed, while remaining inherently interdisciplinary in scope.
Alongside the programmes, a broader pool of policy analysts continues to publish standalone work across CISES’s areas of interest. Within the programme structure, contributors have opportunities to take on greater responsibility and progress into more senior roles over time.
