The Policy Analyst Programme offers early-career researchers the opportunity to contribute original analysis on issues at the intersection of economics, security, and geopolitics.
Policy Analysts are in-house contributors who produce policy-relevant research under editorial oversight, while developing practical research and writing experience in a professional think tank environment.
Progression and development
The Policy Analyst Programme includes a structured progression pathway.
Policy Analysts who demonstrate sustained quality and commitment may be eligible for promotion to Senior Policy Analyst. More experienced contributors may also have the opportunity to lead or co-lead thematic or regional working groups.
Participants in the programme benefit from:
- Editorial guidance and mentorship
- Publication under their own name, including after leaving the programme
- Flexibility to develop a personal research focus
- A LinkedIn recommendation from the Director of Policy following sustained contributions
Role description
As a Policy Analyst, you will research and write on topics related to international security, defence, economic strategy, and global affairs.
Analysts are encouraged to develop and pitch their own ideas while working within CISES’s editorial standards and thematic priorities. Contributions may be made independently or as part of collaborative working groups.
Responsibilities
Policy Analysts are expected to:
- Conduct independent research on relevant policy issues
- Develop and refine research ideas in consultation with the editorial lead
- Produce written analytical outputs to an agreed standard
- Contribute constructively to team-based projects where applicable
- Communicate clearly and meet agreed deadlines
Eligibility
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Current undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral student, or a recent graduate
- Strong interest in economics, security, geopolitics, or global governance
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
Applicants are ideally based in the UK, EEA, North America, or Australia/New Zealand.
English proficiency
Applicants must have professional or native-level English sufficient to produce clear, structured analytical writing.
